After a long winter of being bundled up and eating more comfort foods than we probably should have the anxiety of bearing our bodies for bikini and crop top season is real AF. The good news is that with about a month and a half left until the official start of summer, there is still time to get summertime fine. Here are 4 tips for achieving your #bodygoals for this summer and beyond.
1. Real Over the Fake
This is a mantra we should be following in every aspect of our lives, especially when it comes to the foods we put in our bodies. Staying away from processed foods and opting for healthy whole food options (food in its most natural state) gives our bodies the proper nutrition we need to transition to better health and a healthier physique. Translation: say YES to more fruit, vegetables, nuts, grains and lean meats and NO to refined grains, refined sweeteners, fast foods, etc. See a comprehensive list here.
2. #WCW – Weights, Cardio, Water
If your goal is to be a #WCW then you need to implement a different kind of #WCW into your workout routine: weights, cardio and water. For the biggest fitness gain/weight loss bang for your exercise buck, combine weights and cardio, doing your strength training first and finishing off with your cardio. An American Council on Exercise study on exercise sequencing found that your heart rate is higher—by about 12 beats per minute—during your cardio bout when you’ve lifted weights beforehand. That means more calories burned. Start with a reasonable goal – say about 45 minutes, 3 days a week- then increase your #WCW workouts from there. Make sure that you are also staying hydrated, as water is super important to getting to your body goals!
3. Water, Water, Water
Okay, so we just said this but we’ll say it again: water is super important and a key component to weight loss! It is 100% calorie-free, helps you burn more calories and suppresses your appetite when consumed before meals. If you are not sure you are drinking enough water, here’s a tip: ideally, you should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water. So if you weigh 160 pounds, you should aim for 80 ounces of water a day. Keep in mind that you’re going to have to do a lot more than just drink water to lose weight, but upping your intake is a great start with excellent benefits for your hair and skin too.
4. Mind Over Matter
Mindset is the most overlooked component of reaching the goals we set for ourselves, but it is muy importante! A positive mind will be key in fighting the temptation of stopping for that burger and fries instead of going home and making that salad. It will help you to push through on the days that you feel you don’t have the energy to work out and it will keep you from giving up and stopping short of your goals. Here are some tips on keeping a positive state of mind while you are on your transformative journey to #bodygoals and an all-around healthier, upgraded version of you!
